Edenbrook are working with a Workplace Pension Provider on a Tax Accountant opportunity. As the Tax Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related matters within the company, including the preparation and filing of tax returns, managing relationships with external tax teams, and driving strategic initiatives that optimise tax planning across the organisation. You will be the primary point of contact for tax-related queries, and you will project manage all tax-related projects, working with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution. Key duties of the role include, but are not limited to: • Tax Returns & Compliance: o Oversee the preparation and filing of all relevant tax returns and statutory notices, including but not limited to RAS, VAT, PSA, IPT and Corporation Tax. o Ensure compliance with all tax obligations and deadlines, managing the end-to-end process for tax filings. • External Tax Liaison: o Act as the primary point of contact for our third-party tax team, providing clear communication and direction as needed. o Manage the relationship with external advisors to ensure alignment with organisational tax strategy and compliance requirements. • Project Management: o Lead and manage tax-related projects, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure efficient resource utilisation and timely delivery. o Provide strategic oversight on the execution of tax projects, ensuring that deliverables meet business objectives and regulatory requirements. • Strategic Tax Planning & Recommendations: o Assess and analyse the tax landscape to proactively identify potential risks and opportunities. o Make recommendations to improve tax planning across the organisation, ensuring that tax liabilities are managed effectively. o Continuously horizon-scan for changes in tax legislation or industry trends that may impact the company. • Payment Calculations & Proposals: o Calculate and propose appropriate payments on account where necessary, ensuring that the business maintains its tax obligations without unnecessary cash flow disruption. • Business Process Improvement: o Evaluate existing business processes and identify areas where changes can be made to limit tax liabilities and improve operational efficiency. o Implement process improvements and monitor their effectiveness in achieving optimal tax outcomes. • To undertake ad hoc activities as agreed with Finance Controller • Adhere to Company Risk Management policy and procedures, including reporting of incidents or breaches. • Apply and promote Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) culture and principles, together with the organisation’s behaviours and values. • Adhere to Company Diversity & Inclusion policy. The ideal candidate Essential • ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified or equivalent experience in tax management. • Strong understanding of UK tax law, including VAT, corporation tax, and pensions-related tax considerations. • Proven experience in managing tax compliance, preparing tax returns, and liaising with external tax advisors. • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and stakeholders. • Strategic mindset with the ability to assess tax risks and opportunities and provide clear recommendations. • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex tax regulations. • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior leaders and other departments across the business Desirable • Educated to degree level • Experience with UK GAAP, Pension SORP and Charity SORP • Pension scheme, financial services, charity experience
