Edenbrook are recruiting for a Senior Financial Accountant - IFRS17. This role is part of the IFRS17 team, which is responsible the production of the quarterly and annual IFRS17 reporting, both internally and to wider stakeholders.
Key Accountabilities:
Primary accountabilities:
• To actively participate in the company’s reporting processes, including: running of the related IFRS17 models and data platforms, preparation of the quarterly results and insurance currency balance sheet, preparation and submission of budget and reforecast information, and preparation of supplementary information.
• Ensure completion of reporting to the agreed close process timetable, agreement of the timetable in relation to IFRS17 activities.
• To actively participate in the population and review of OneStream.
• To deliver the reviews and sign-offs of our OneStream reporting package.
• To support with the preparation of the quarterly President’s Report via the provision of necessary IFRS17 results.
• To prepare IFRS17 analysis and provide explanation for internal and external IFRS17 reporting.
• To input to the process of preparing the Group’s financial statements, including the preparation or review of certain entity financial statements or coordinating their preparation by relevant owners.
• To maintain control of the processes for populating the GL with the IFRS17 results for all relevant entities.
• To manage the preparation of IFRS 17 data use for monthly MI pack purposes (as required).
• To contribute to the research of evolutions to the IFRS17 accounting policies and implementation of the necessary changes across the company Work with the wider group in the evolution of IFRS17 reporting. Establish relationships with industry peers around the development and practical application of IFRS17.
• To input to the implementation of changes to IFRS17 systems and processes, working with other relevant parties (IT, Actuarial) as required.
• To undertake a continuous improvement process to identify emerging issues and needs and ensure prompt development and resolution thereof.
• To research any technical accounting issues as may be required, including supporting other Finance teams on general accounting matter in respect of existing activities, and advising on the IFRS 17 implications of Group initiatives, acquisitions or other such items.
Secondary accountabilities:
• To develop or maintain procedures manuals for your areas of responsibility, including review of procedure documentation prepared by any direct reports.
• To discharge your duties in respect of Financial Controls for your areas of responsibility
• To act as a primary point of contact for liaison with auditors and other external contacts on IFRS17 reporting matters.
• Involvement in ad hoc projects where necessary, including leading them where appropriate.
• To provide support to other members of the Finance Department as may be necessary, both in respect of IFRS 17 matters or other matters relating to the financial reporting.
• To assist the wider Finance Function as required in tasks such as: Payment approvals and knowledge sharing sessions.
The ideal candidate:
Technical skills
• Good technical knowledge and practical experience of interpreting and applying International Financial Reporting Standards and UK GAAP. Specific experience of IFRS 17 is required.
• Excel functionality to an advanced user level
• Good knowledge of data, including data management, analysis, interrogation and validation.
• Knowledge of PowerPivot and Power Query is preferable but not essential.
Competencies
• Track record of delivering a high-quality product to tight deadlines.
• Experience of Great Plains, OneStream or Moody’s Risk Integrity would be beneficial.
• Effective prioritisation and organisational skills, and an ability to adapt to changing requirements and work within a team.
• Advanced numeric and analytical skills, with good attention to detail.
• Well-developed report writing skills.
• Good presentation skills, and the ability to resent results to senior members of the Group.
• Business & Educational Experience
• Qualified Accountant with 3+ years post-qualified experience, preferably ACA or equivalent with a leading professional firm background.
• Knowledge of general, commercial insurance industry practices and policies.
